چکیده
All images are acquired on a Spectralis device from Heidelberg Engineering. Image courtesy of Dr. (med) Ke-nan Damer, Birmingham Midlands Eye Centre, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. Fig. 1. a Shows the macula of a left eye with reduced foveal reflectivity on the infra-red picture, which is due to intra-retinal fluid caused by choroidal neovascularization (CNV) related to wet AMD. In b , the sub-retinal fluid and a lesion are visible. * Indicates the posterior hyaloid membrane of the vitreous. a b Fig. 2. a A fundus fluorescein angiography image of a right eye 27 s after fluorescein dye injection, which corresponds with the late venous phase. In the foveal area, a well-defined, hyper-fluorescent lesion is visible. b One minute and 32 s after the dye injection. The borders of the central lesion increase in size and intensity, which is a sign of leaking blood vessels. This leads to the diagnosis of a classic only CNV in which the CNV is above the retinal pigment epi-thelium (RPE) as opposed to occult CNV in which it is below the RPE.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients with the Wet Form of Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
The study is designed to determine the relationship between the progress of the wet form of age-related macular degeneration and the activity of the visual cortex examined using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Ten patients with the wet form of age-related macular degeneration (9 female and 1 male) with a mean age of 74.7 years (58-85 years) at various stages of bilateral involvement of t...
متن کاملTranspupilary thermotherapy of occult subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to age related macular degeneration
Abstract Background: Transpupillary thermotherapy is a new treatment for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization which needs further evaluation. This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy on regression of occult subfoveal choroidal neovascularization with or without pigment epithelial detachment in patients with age-related macular degeneration. Methods: In a ...
متن کاملMacular Hole Formation After Intravitreal Ranibizumab Injection in Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
Ranibizumab is a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits angiogenesis by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor A, used as a treatment for patients with wet aged-related macular degeneration (ARMD). Adverse effects from intravitreal Ranibizumab injections are well recognised. Macular hole formation following Ranibizumab injection is a complication that has been recently reported in fe...

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the developed world and is characterized by progressive degeneration of the retinal pigment epithelium and secondary photoreceptor loss, resulting in visual loss. Etiological research suggests that age related macular degeneration is a complex disease, caused by the interactions of several genetic and enviro...
